Molluscum Healing Signs
Molluscum progress through stages before it heals. You can tell your molluscum bumps are healing properly by observing a series of typical changes in their appearance and behavior:
* Redness and Swelling: As your immune system fights the virus, the bumps may become red and swollen. This inflammation is a positive sign that healing is underway.
* Pus Formation: Some bumps may develop pus-filled centers. This is a dangerous time as the pus is contagious and spread the virus across the body and to other people.
* Crusting or Scabbing: As the bumps resolve, they may develop a crust or scab. This is part of the natural healing process.
* Fading of Bumps: The bumps will gradually shrink and disappear. They may be replaced by pink, purple, or white spots that slowly fade over time.
* No New Bumps Appearing: Although you may see new bumps for several months, as some heal, the cycle will eventually slow and stop. When no new bumps appear and existing ones are fading or gone, this signals the infection is resolving.
Proper healing generally means the bumps are not spreading, not causing severe pain or signs of a secondary bacterial infection (such as increased pain, yellow oozing, or spreading redness beyond the bump), and are gradually fading away.
