Adults often get molluscum under hair

Molluscum contagiosum is transmitted by direct physical contact or from an object handled by someone who already has the infection.^4,5

Scientific research indicates that people involved in contact sports or who attend public swimming pools or spas are more likely catch molluscum.^2,3

Parents and relatives of children with molluscum are also very likely to catch molluscum. More than 40% of those with molluscum can identify a close friend or relative who is infected.¹⁴

Adults sometimes get molluscum contagiosum on the genitals, groin, thighs and stomach. This is because in adults molluscum can be a sexually transmitted disease (an STD or STI). ¹

Eczema, dermatitis and dry skin often occur with molluscum infection⁶ and it is this that some people notice first.

Molluscum is highly contagious
